Work Residence Permit

The work residence permit is an important document for individuals who are coming to Georgia for entrepreneurial or labor activities.

To qualify and apply, the individual must have an employment contract (or an employment certificate) with at least 6 months remaining, even if they own the sponsoring Limited Liability Company (LLC) or Individual Entrepreneur (IE). Additionally, they must have proof of sufficient funds to support themselves for the duration of the residence permit. The duration will be 6 to 12 months for the first permit, and up to 11 years for future permits.

Furthermore, the turnover (within the last 12-month period) of the sponsoring LLC or IE should exceed 50,000 GEL for each foreigner (director or employee) in the business – even if those foreigners already have a residence permit in Georgia.

Why should I apply for a work residence permit?

The work residence permit is a great opportunity for individuals looking to start a business in Georgia or find employment there. It allows them to stay in Georgia legally and provides them with certain rights and privileges that would not otherwise be available. With this permit, individuals can live and work in Georgia without having to worry about their immigration status.

This makes it easier for them to focus on their business endeavours or job search without any worries about their legal status in Georgia.

What are the benefits of having a residence permit?

Having a residence permit in Georgia can be extremely beneficial for those looking to stay in the country for an extended period of time. On May 12th, 2021, changes were made to the rules regarding permanent residency allowing temporary residence permits to be renewed after 10 years as a permanent resident in Georgia. Moreover, after the first year short term (1 year) approval of the residence permit the renewal residency period is almost always longer (up to 10 years). This is a great opportunity for those who are looking to make Georgia their home and take advantage of all the benefits it has to offer.

In addition to being able to renew your residence permit after 10 years, having a residence permit also allows you access to certain services and benefits that are not available to those on a C-1 visa (tourism). These include access to healthcare, education, employment opportunities, and more.

It also provides peace of mind knowing that you have legal status in the country and can remain there without fear of deportation or other legal repercussions. All these factors make having a residence permit in Georgia an attractive option for many people.
